Right now, running is my constant. I run almost every day. Running grounds me. Somehow, even though I work part-time and teach 7 piano students, it still feels like life is crazy. I think it’s because I’m trying to fit in more in the evenings and during my free days. I’m spending more time with friends, I’m working outside in the yard, I’m finally unpacking and organizing everything in the house, I’m basically opening up a new juice and smoothie bar, I’m getting more involved in the community, like for Kenmore football team dinners and the games. I forget that I haven’t even been home a month yet. Oh, and I’m trying to cope mentally with gaining weight. It’s all good things. But still. Thank goodness for running and for Maggie! And yoga. I went to three yoga classes this week, too. So good.
I’m working with a running coach who knows that I need to gain weight, and she’s coached girls through this before. If you need a running coach, check her out – Katie at TeamKatiesFitScript. She’s a pharmacist and a 3:05 marathoner and an Ironman triathlete 🙂 She’s great. I obviously am not going to give away the program she wrote for me, but here’s last week’s schedule. You can get an idea of what her programming is like:
Sunday: Run Rest
Monday: 5 mile Progression Run (warm up mile, 1 mile at 7:45, 2 miles at 7:30, 1 mile cooldown)
Tuesday: 6 miles easy – 8:33 pace
Wednesday: Run Rest (but I ran Friday’s workout because of National Guard drill weekend – 5 miles easy with 4×30 seconds of strides at the end, 5.5 miles total – 8:43 pace)
Thursday: 4 miles easy – 8:34 pace
Friday: 10 miles with fast finish – 8:30 pace
Saturday – Run Rest (because I was going to run on Sunday for the Army PT Test)
So that’s what, 30.5 miles for the week. This week, I’m running almost 40. I have the Akron Half Marathon on Saturday, September 23 – next weekend! And then I’m still trying to qualify for Boston at the Columbus Marathon on October 15. I’ve got to run 8:00 minute miles for 26.2 miles… AGHHHHH! I’m going for it. I might crash and burn, but I’m going to give it all I’ve got.
