Just another “quick” update! Since my last pity-party post, I’ve gotten inspired to search for Yoga Teaching Training (YTT) programs that are paid for by the Army, are close to Akron, or are super-fast intensive programs. It’s surprisingly hard to find programs that fit! Unfortunately, my GI Bill won’t cover any YTT programs. I’ve narrowed it down to three programs, though.
My first choice is in Asheville from January 8-26, and it’s a three-week intensive course. I’d have to pay for housing and food, but there’s a chance I can use MyCAA (military spouse education benefits) to pay for a part of the tuition. The benefits of this program? There’s a $300 scholarship opportunity, I can drive there, I might get the MyCAA $2000 credit, and it’s close enough that Will might be able to visit for a weekend (we only get three free days, but one is a Saturday! And maybe he can visit his friends when he’s down there, too). This program would be about $3300 (tuition, housing, food, gas)
My second choice is in Florida from March 23 – April 6. It’s a two-week intensive course, and I’d have to pay for my food and the flight to Florida. It’s not registered with the MyCAA program, so it would all be out of pocket. I LOVE that this program is only two weeks long, and housing is included in the price. It’s $3000 + round-trip airfare.
My third choice is Yoga Bliss! The pros? It’s right here! And it’s taught by Tracy Rhinehart, who is absolutely phenomenal. But it’s from January 10 – May 9. That’s a little longer than I wanted. Unfortunately, I can’t use any Army benefits for this program, either. They meet on select Wednesdays from 4-9 pm, most Saturdays from 12:15-6 pm, and one Friday and one Sunday. I would get a bit of a discount, and if I wanted, the studio would just apply each paycheck to the tuition. I wouldn’t get paid for 5 months, but I wouldn’t pay anything out of pocket. It would be about $2800.
There you have it! I DEFINITELY welcome all input. I want to teach yoga in studios, in schools, and I recently heard about how yoga in prison is having a huge impact on the climate and the culture in the prison. I’d love to be able to start teaching as soon as possible, and each program is pretty comparable in price. If Will and I can link up in DEERS (Army family data program, basically) and I can use the MyCAA souse education benefits, the Asheville program would be way cheaper. And I LOVED Asheville when we visited in December. Obviously, that’s my first choice! I don’t necessarily want to be away from Will and my life AGAIN, but that’s why a two- or three- week intensive program would be the best.
Any thoughts? Let me know!
Verse of the Day:
– 1 Timothy 4:12
– Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.
Who does need this reminder on the daily?!? Be the example. Show Christ’s love daily by actions, thoughts, words, everything!
